Located at the edge of the Weald forest, Tenterden is affectionately known as the ‘Jewel of the Weald’. With so many amazing attractions, a rich heritage felt throughout its streets and an abundance of walking and cycling routes to enjoy, it’s no wonder it’s so highly regarded.

The town is steeped in a rich history, which can be felt throughout its many great feats of architecture, including its 11th-century church. The streets of Tenterden feature Victorian houses and quintessential British cottages. Alongside its tree-lined greenery through the centre of its High Street, this is truly a magical part of the country.

While Tenterden may be small, it certainly packs plenty in, with a wide choice of cafes and independent shops to explore. The many shopping opportunities throughout this humble market town makes it a great place to pick up a souvenir from your time at our campsite near Tenterden. From antiques, books, crafts and gifts, you’re sure to find something to remind you of your cherished memories at Fallow Fields.

In addition to the captivating sights of the High Street, another excellent place to visit for fans of history and architecture is the nearby Grade-11 listed Small hythe Place. Constructed in the early 16th century and cared for by The National Trust, this half-timbered house was once home to the Shakesperaren actress Ellen Terry. It now features her theatre collection, alongside sprawling gardens and orchards.

Of course, fans of all things nostalgic should be sure to plan a visit to the Kent & East Sussex Railway. This railway stretches for 10.5 miles and was the first light railway constructed. Back in 1900 and 1954, it ran passenger trains but today, it is a beloved tourist attraction that welcomes nearly 90,000 a year. Head over to the Tenterden Town Station and marvel at rolling countryside views as the train runs along the historic tracks.

Tenterden also offers something for the grown ups at the beautiful Chapel Down winery. With its picturesque setting, visitors can sample award-winning wines, walk the vineyards, purchase their favourite bottles in the shop or even plan a guided tour.

Just as with Fallow Fields, Tenterden is a great location for visitors of all ages. And when you’re staying at our Lathe Barn campsite near Tenterden, there’s a whole world of excitement to discover.
