Set Off on an Adventure Through Nature

Whether you’re staying at Selson Farm or Lathe Barn, you’ll find lots of lovely nearby walks in the countryside, though woodlands and along the coast. Here are just some ideas to help you get inspired. You can also check out our Instagram for more family and dog-friendly walks nearby:

Selson Farm Walks

Miller Woodland Trust

Situated directly opposite the entrance to Selson Farm is Miller Woodland Trust. This offers a wealth of wonderful woodland and a great place to walk the dog.

Sandwich Bay

Sandwich Bay is dog-friendly and provides a lovely spot for a family picnic. Do be aware that there is an admission charge for cars (although it is free for walkers and those on bike). You can access it by foot along the rivers from Sandwich town, which is also a lovely town to walk around.

If you fancy a drink or a bite to eat at the end of your walk, you can head from the Bay into Sandwich town. Here you’ll find The George and Dragon, which has a great reputation, as well as The Hop and Huffkin, the French ‘No Name Deli’and Luigis serving Italian on the quay.

Betteshanger Park

The enchanting Betteshanger Country Park boasts a whopping 250 acres worth of walking trails. Explore the woodland, ramble past the lakes and wonder at the views out to Sandwich.

Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens

Plan your day to Kearsney Abbey and Russell Gardens and spend your time adventuring around 10 acres of open parkland and lakes. This spot is great for families and dogs are welcome too.

Deal Seafront

A short drive from Selson Farm, the Deal Seafront has plenty of parking in the town centre. There’s a promenade with bars and restaurants that stretches from the ¼-mile-long pier along the pebble beach to Walmer Castle. The award-winning gardens of this castle also provide a fantastic day out and it’s free if you have an English Heritage membership.

The White Cliffs of Dover

Walk along the iconic landscape of the White Cliffs and enjoy awe-inspiring views out to France. This route is wheelchair accessible with a viewing point and dog-friendly. There’s also a tearoom at the end for a well-deserved cuppa and slice of cake.

Lathe Barn Walks

There are brilliant walks towards Port Lympne on the surrounds of the Lathe Barn campsite. You can ask for directions in the campshop and little ones may even be treated to a sight of some of the local wildlife in the nature reserve.

Dymchurch Beach

Our Lathe Barn campsite is just a 9-minutedrive from this Blue Flag awarded beach. The area south of the Dymchurch beach car park provides plenty of parking and dogs are allowed all year round. If you want to wander into the village of Dymchurch, you’ll be greeted by shops, a small amusement arcade and fish and chips shops for lunch. You can even stop in at the Ship Inn on your way back to the campsite for some great pub grub.

Brockhill Country Park

Rich in wildlife and with wide open spaces to roam, the Brockhill Country Park offers a great day away. There’s a lake, woods, meadows and picnic and play areas, as well as an onsite cafe. See how much of the local flora and fauna you can spot, with marbled white butterflies, green woodpeckers and carpets of snowdrops calling this their home.

Dungeness Beach

A unique looking setting, Dungeness beach is a vast shingle beach featuring an imposing power station. It’s a great spot for those family holiday snaps. Be sure to drop into the Pilot pub for some of the scrummiest fish and chips around.

Folkestone Harbour and Seafront

You’ll discover an incredible atmosphere on the Folkestone Harbour Arm, with live bands playing and an assortment of streetfood to sample. If you walk along the promenade away from town, you can head to Lower Leas coastal park, where you’ll be greeted by play areas and gardens.
