Camping near Margate

One of the things we really pride ourselves on here at Fallow Fields is our picturesque settings, which can really act as an escape from all the hustle and bustle. Sometimes it can be so effective that it feels like the world around us has vanished as we become engulfed in the serenity that surrounds us.

However, we’re happy that’s very much not the case because if it were, we wouldn’t be able to enjoy the many delights of Margate, found a mere 25 to 30-minute drive away from our beloved Selson Farm campsite. It’s quite different – very distinct from Fallow Fields – but one look at the golden sandy beaches shows us the wonderful kaleidoscope of natural beauty around us. We might not be a camp Margate site specifically, but we’re close enough to be able to recommend the vintage charms of this stunning seaside town to all our visitors. 

How far is Fallow Fields from camping in Margate, England?

So, we don’t have camp sites in Margate – but what about camping sites near Margate? We think we can help you there. 

From our Selson Farm campsite, you can get there (via car) in under half an hour, traffic permitting. It’s considerably further from our Lathe Barn camp, which generally takes around an hour and 15 minutes driving. In other words, if you’re looking for a campsite near Margate, Lathe Barn is your best option. That said, we do think Margate is a fine enough experience to be worth the journey either way.

If you’ve never been, you may be surprised to learn there’s so much interest in camping in Margate, Kent, alongside Fallow Fields. But to us, it’s only natural. Not only do we think our campsites are fantastic but we also love our location. 

Being in Kent opens us up to so many amazing experiences, including access to Margate. So, why is camping in Margate, UK so magical? We’ve got a few reasons in mind:

When you’re camping near the Kent Coast, you’re never far from a beautiful beach – and the likes of Margate Main Sands and Westbrook Bay are stunning examples of this fact. They even provide quite different experiences, with the former being more of a fun-focused, popular beach, while the latter is quite a bit quieter. 

It’s indeed a Margate beaches are a colourful and varied lot, but one which always bears the same hallmark of awe-inspiring sights and wonderful memories made. Even the name Margate for many will conjure up the smells of candy floss and fish and chips carried on a sea breeze, along with the jingle jangle of childhood holidays.

An amazing history 

But the nostalgia here isn’t just for historical note, just as the sands can be felt beneath your feet just as warmly as it could in generations past. You’ve got cultural highlights like the Tom Thumb Centre, mysterious cave adventures with the Cave Grotto and a treasure trove of twee otherworldly goodness at the Hornby Visitor Centre. 

That’s not to mention the historic sites, museums, theatres, plus so many amazing places to eat, drink and be merry – all available when you choose camping sites near Margate.

Margate is a compelling place to visit right now 

Don’t get us wrong, part of the charm of Margate is certainly that it’s reminiscent of days gone by. But there’s still plenty of amazing experiences to be had right now in a part of the country that has managed to create memories provide amazing experiences without ever losing the identity which makes people fall in love with it decade after decade. 

Margate is as real and as present in the moment as the heat above your campfire. And while we can’t provide camp sites in Margate, we can do the next best thing, which is offer you a camp near enough that you can indulge in everything this gorgeous seaside town can offer without any unnecessary fuss or hassle. , which won’t be far away when you’re camping near Margate. If you’re on the lookout for options for camping in Margate, England, we’ve got plenty of versatility in pricing and accommodation, so you can find your ideal camp Margate match. If you bring your own tent, prices begin at £12 for adults and £10 for children, and small campervans are available for the same price. Unfurnished bell tents have a starting cost of £72, while furnished luxury bell tents begin at £99 (midweek). 

How close is Fallow Fields to Margate? 

There’s a large difference in distance between our Lathe Barn and Selson Farm campsites to Margate. The latter is what we recommend if camping in Margate, Kent, is important to you. Selson Farm is as little as 13.4 miles away. So, while we can’t provide camp sites in Margate, you can get there if you’re driving in a little over half an hour. 

Lathe Barn is considerably further away at a minimum of around 37 miles, meaning even by car, your journey would take you around an hour and 15 minutes. It’s still worth the journey, but Selson Farm is the ideal choice for anyone looking for camping sites near Margate. 

Are there camp sites in Margate? 

The seaside town of Margate may be beautiful but it’s not especially built for campers – in the same way that there are campsites near Dreamland Margate, but not in the amusement park itself. It’s just not made for rural stays. Our Selson Farm campsite, we think, is as good as any option for campsites near Margate. 

Can I use public transport to get from Fallow Fields to Margate? 

Yes, it’s possible. From our Selson Farm camp, you can use a mixture of buses and trains to get there in a little over an hour in some instances. If you plan on doing so, we’d advise you to keep in mind that the difference in time depending on the services used can be vast, ranging upwards of above two hours in some cases. So, it’s important to plan your journey carefully. 

Why is there so much interest in camp sites in Margate? 

The reason that camping sites near Margate (actually camping inside Margate isn’t possible) are so popular is that it’s a fantastic seaside town, with tons of things to do and enjoy. This includes classic fairground fun, amazing beaches, and an astonishingly deep history. Essentially, it’s a wonderful place to visit, which is easily accessible via camping sites near Margate.
